Deuteronomy 7:9 – Know therefore that the LORD your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations
In a job I had prior to becoming a pastor, the boss once said the whole company would play golf together and have dinner at his house. There were only ten of us, so it was possible. But it never happened. A smaller group from the company played, but those who worked in the office (including me) were not included.
I expect that most everyone has been let down when someone else didn’t stay true to his or her word. Maybe the word “promise” wasn’t said, but whatever was said sounded like one. At the same time, we regularly tell people what we intend to do, but we don’t always carry it out. Maybe something has caused a delay or our plans changed. Perhaps there was a good reason not to do what we had said, but another person was disappointed in the process.
God will never let us down! He is faithful and keeps his promises. His steadfast love extends to a thousand generations. That is a long time! Though we will be disappointed by others, and we will disappoint them too, God is faithful. We can rely on his love, his grace, and his mercy. We can trust in him to do what he said. We can believe in him.
